Dear Colleagues,

I would very much appreciate any help you may be able to give in
locating incunabula and manuscripts which were once owned by Hieronymus
Muenzer, a physician and humanist who died in the Imperial Free City of
Nuremberg in 1508. His book collection was acquired by the Princes of
Dietrichstein (Moravia) in the 18th century and subsequently sold
together with that royal collection in 1933/34. Although a larger part
of the collection remained in the Czech Republic (cf. University Library
of Brno), many books were dispersed and acquired by North American
libraries and private collectors, including libraries in New Haven and
in the Boston area.

I am hoping to locate more books. Muenzer's books are identifiable by
the ownership inscriptions in Latin written in the inside front cover of
his books. With some variation they read "Hic Liber est mei Hieronimi
monetarii de feltkirchen arcium atque medicine ..."
While the humanist was born in Feldkirch, Austria, upon completion of
his medical studies in Italy he set up a medical practice in Nuremberg
in 1479 and remained there until his death.

Your help in locating his books, and also any early printed books
bearing the book plate of the Princes of Dietrichstein, will be greatly
appreciated.

With best wishes

Randall Herz
