[Opencost.info] EZB journal categories

Dear friends and colleagues, 

we would love to give you an update on our new journal categories in the
Elektronische Zeitschriftenbibliothek (EZB). We recently introduced you to the
journal categories at our openCost workshop in Hamburg (you can download the
presentation slides here:
https://indico.desy.de/event/35620/contributions/126853/). At the beginning of
the new year, we would like to publish these categories with their definitions
in a glossary in the EZB. The glossary is intended to be a reliable source of
information for users (authors, librarians etc) and re-use in other services.
Furthermore, these categories can be used to generate journal lists and enhance
journal search in the EZB.  Considering that there may be different
understandings of the same terms in the library world, it is especially
important to us that we get community-based feedback, as we aim for providing a
firm definition of these terms.

Below are four categories in German and English you are welcome to review with
a critical eye. Beyond that, we also invite you to suggest further journal
categories!  


Indexed in DOAJ
The Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) indexes and provides access to
high quality, open access, peer-reviewed journals. All DOAJ journals are
automatically tagged in the EZB.

Das Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) ist ein Verzeichnis für
Open-Access-Zeitschriften mit Qualitätssicherungsverfahren. DOAJ-Zeitschriften
werden in der EZB automatisiert gekennzeichnet.

Journal without APC
Full OA journal without publication fees.

Vollwertige Open-Access-Zeitschrift ohne Publikationsgebühren.

Mirror Journal*
A mirror journal is a fully open access version of an existing subscription
journal, with the same editorial board, aims and scope, peer review processes
and policies and an editorial board with at least 50% of the same members. The
journal may have a similar name as the subscription title, but it must have a
different ISSN.

Ein Mirror Journal ist eine vollständig frei zugängliche Version einer
bestehenden Subskriptionszeitschrift mit demselben Editorial Board, Aims und
Scope, denselben Peer-Review-Verfahren und -Richtlinien sowie einem Editorial
Board, das zu mindestens 50 % aus denselben Mitgliedern besteht. Die
Zeitschrift kann einen ähnlichen Namen wie die Subskriptionszeitschrift tragen,
muss aber eine andere ISSN haben.

*In Germany, mirror journals may be labelled as not DFG-fundable because they
are considered to circumvent the ineligibility of Hybrid Open Access.

Subscribe to Open (S2O)
S2O allows publishers to convert journals from subscriptions to OA, one year
at a time. Using S2O, a publisher offers a journal’s current subscribers
continued access. If all current subscribers participate in the S2O offer
(simply by not opting out) the publisher opens the content covered by that
year’s subscription.

S2O ermöglicht es Verlagen, Zeitschriften von Subskriptionen auf OA
umzustellen, und zwar jeweils für ein Jahr. Mit S2O bietet ein Verlag den
Abonnenten einer Zeitschrift weiterhin Zugang. Wenn alle bisherigen Abonnenten
an dem S2O-Angebot teilnehmen, stellt der Verlag die Inhalte, die durch das
Jahresabonnement abgedeckt sind, auf Open Access um.
